help with efile 4868 and payment?

Getting a divorced.  Wife is in another state.  We agreed I would file joint for us.  Turbotax desktop efile failed because federal epin system.  I logged into IRS and found mine, but IRS system does not recognize my wife's cellphone and will mail to her.

My options are to print and mail.  OR to use efile on turbotax online.

I would like to pay and get this over with, since I have five extra days after efile fails, and my ex-to-be-wife went on vacation with her boyfriend.  Will extend until she gets epin in mail in 25(?) days.

I see the payment link but not an efile for form 4868.  What am I missing?

The last day to file an extension (4868) was July 15.   You cannot file it now.

    Just file ASAP.

Not completely true.  I filed on July 15th.

the IRS rejected it because of epin.

I have until July 20th to file.

Unfortunately, I still have to pay....by July 15th....so the epin system screwed me.

So I am made the filing date ,but missed the payment date.  oh well.

Tell that to my ex-wife-to-be, who will simply say (and somewhat rightly) that I should have done it earlier.

My reply, if I don't want to take the high road (and I do), is that she was supposed to find an accountant to do taxes and not saddle me with them.

    But thats another crappy story.

    Nevermind.

I found I could pay on IRS website using same username and password as EPIN.  per turbotax instructions:

You can pay all or part of your estimated income tax due and
indicate that the payment is for an extension using Direct Pay,
the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System, or using a credit
    or debit card.

This automatically files 4868 so all is good.
