How can I pay my state tax if my return is in pending status?

If you set up your state's payment to come out of your return, then you don't need to make an additional payment.  State returns get approved after the federal return does.  It's normal for them to show as pending while the federal goes through.  

 

If you didn't set up your state payment, then most states will allow you to make payments on their website, or you can mail a payment.
