How do I claim a new dependent after filing taxes, to receive 2021 stimulus?

My Second child was born this year, 2021. So they were NOT included on my 2020 taxes. However I was told I could claim my second child to receive monthly stimulus money being sent out for dependents. I have already filed 2020 taxes, but was told this shouldn’t effect my ability to add the baby as a dependent now.

The third stimulus payment for a child born in 2021 will be a credit on the 2021 return that is filed next year ... there is no way to get that in advance sorry.

Your 2020 return can not be amended to add the new child. Eventually a portal where you can add that child for the advance CTC payments will go live ... More information will be available soon. There may be monthly payments going out beginning in July 2021, with some of the CTC still left as a refundable credit on your 2021 tax return next year.
