Question

It says Colorado started. Don’t want anything showing of Colorado. There is nothing to be shown. I’ve lived in Missouri for two years, and I’ve still not received my taxes at all because of this issue.

In TurboTax Online, state tax returns may be removed by following these steps:

  • Select State Taxes down the left side of the screen.
  • Select Your State Returns down the left side of the screen.
  • At the screen Status of your state returns, click the trashcan to the right of the state name to remove the tax return.

However, if you have already paid your TurboTax state fees or registered your free version with your state return attached, you will not be able to delete your state return.  See also here.

Make sure that there is not something in your tax return that invokes a state tax return by accident.

Follow these steps:

  • Select My Info down the left side of the screen.
  • Select Edit to the right of your name.
  • Review the entry for State of residence on December 31, 2023.
  • Review the entry for I lived in another state.
  • Review the same entries for your spouse.

Review lines 15 through 17 of W-2's to see whether another state income taxes has been withheld.  Select Federal and Wages & Income down the left side of the screen.
