How do I save information so far and be able to come back later?

TurboTax Online automatically saves your work as you go through the interview.

Plus, when you sign out, we'll make sure to save everything before we log you out.

Once you've filed your return, we'll also give you the option to save a PDF copy of your tax return to your computer so you can view or print it without having to sign in again. More info

When I try to save my two 2019 files, I get an error saying that they are each locked and can not be saved. I can't close down the application without saving since I made updates tho both files

It depends.

You can only have one account per username and password. Do you have two separate accounts set up?

Please try clearing your cookies in your browser and then log back into your TurboTax software.  Many times, this will help clear the issue and allow you to log back in.

Instructions to clear cookies to restart TurboTax

After you do this, try logging out of TurboTax, closing your browser, and then logging back in. This should update your software and allow you to proceed.
