How long do you have to wait to get your original tax refund after you had to amend it?

did you file an amended return before you got your original refund or paid the balance due?        then you messed up.       you are supposed to wait until your original return is fully processed.  this is because sometimes the iRS finds a problem with the original return.   then because you have gotten the iRS notice but go ahead and submit the X, the original column doesn't correctly reflect the changes the IRS wants to see and that makes the amended column incorrect.       the IRS may be able to fix this or send you back the amended return to correct it.  there is no telling how long this could take.     if it's been more that 90 days since you submitted the amended return, you can try contacting the IRS tax advocate in your state.
