After January, e-filed returns generally sit in Pending status for 24–48 hours or longer before coming back as either Accepted or Rejected.

You can check your e-file status on TurboTax. This will show you either pending or if the IRS has Accepted your return. Then 24 hours after the IRS accepts your return, you can begin to track the status of your return on the IRS Where’s My Federal Refund? site for updates. Updates are made daily, usually overnight. You may also download the IRS2Go app to check your Federal refund status.

You will need your social security number, filing status, and refund amount in order to track your refund.

Be sure when checking Where’s My Federal Refund? site that you are entering only your Federal refund amount. This can be found on your Federal form 1040, line 21a. If you paid any fees out of your federal refund, use the refund figure prior to the deduction of he fees. Also if you filed joint, be sure to enter the filers name that appears first on the return.

If still no luck, the IRS may be updating the site or it may be overloaded right now.
