Is your son a teenage who might have filed his own return?   Or is there someone else who might have claimed him?   If his SSN has been used on another tax return, the only way you can file your own return that claims him is by mail.  Print, sign and date your own return in ink and mail it in.  The IRS will sort out the duplicate use of your son's SSN.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

As for "my husband did not have a job" you can still file a joint return even if one spouse had little or no income.  File a joint return and enter your income on the return.  If your spouse had any unemployment you will need to enter the 1099G for that.
