Question

How to fix error on Louisiana return. Error check says I have to select a box or change amount to zero but the amount box is grayed out.

Military return where work and residence both in Louisiana. I was not on orders for greater than 120 days outside of Louisiana. Therefore none of my income is exempt but I cannot put zero since the box is grayed out. There’s other guided option to change nor manual option to change.

You should recheck your entries.  Assuming you had an active duty military pay W2 and your home of record is LA and you were stationed in LA below are the correct entries.

  1. Federal "Wages & Income"
  2. "Edit" W2 for military pay
  3. Verify form information
  4. On the "Uncommon Situations" page select "Active Military Pay"
  5. "Continue"/Complete the "Income" interview
  6. "Prepare State"
  7. "Edit" LA state interview
  8. "Update" the "Adjustments" section
  9. Check LA Home of Record
  10. Check "I served on Active Duty Orders"
  11. Do Not check "Served over 120 Days outside of LA"
  12. Continue the "Adjustments" interview
  13. Done with LA
  14. Continue Review

I did select “Active Duty Pay” but no option i

for military orders is available under Adjustments. It does come up during the error check. I do not select the option for 120 days outside of LA. It does not offer me the option to change the dollar amount to zero even though the instructions state to do so.

The "I have military orders" box should also be checked.  If the error persists, it looks like you are using a mobile application; try using a browser instead and sign in to your account there.  Go through the LA "Adjustments" interview and make the selections there.
