How to get a copy of the prior year’s original tax return prior to the amendment?

You were supposed to save the original return as a pdf before you amended---did you do that---as instructed? If you did not do that, then the amended return overwrote the original. You can pay the IRS for a copy.
You can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $30, an actual copy of your tax return.
