Question

I accidentally checked that someone could claim me as a dependent even though I am independent. If I amend my tax return, will I get the stimulus check?

As a dependent, you are not eligible for the stimulus payment.

If no one can claim you as a dependent, you'll need to amend your 2019 tax return in order to be eligible for the stimulus payment.

To amend your return, please follow the instructions in this TurboTax Help topic.

Will it be too late to amend my taxes if the checks are going out in the next month though?

You can amend your tax return for up to 3 years after the due date.

You probably will be passed upon for the first wave of stimulus checks, but you will be able to reconcile the credit on your 2020 tax year return.

If you need to amend your taxes, do that and hope for the best.
