The direct deposit will be put into the account that matches the routing and account numbers you entered. If you used the account number for your checking account, then that will be the account your refund is deposited to.

Many banks will make simple corrections when there is a minor error in this type of deposit.

If the refund can't be successfully deposited to the account you selected, the IRS may elect to mail a paper check instead.

My bank returned my refund because I checked savings instead of checking. Suggestions? Account numbers were correct.

If the attempt to direct deposit your account is unsuccessful, the IRS will usually issue you a paper check to the address on file. You may contact the IRS with the details here.
