Question

I accidentally hit amend a return and then I went back to undo it and tried to start the whole state returns over but it keeps saying I'm amending the return. How to fix?

Since you are still getting the message that you are amending your return, you will need to delete the amend.
Where did you click on amend?  Was it just the state return?  Or both the Federal and the State.

To Delete the Federal Amended return:

**If you need to delete your amended return, please click on Federal Taxes, Other Tax Situations and scroll down to Other Tax Forms and click the button beside Amend a Return.  (See the screen shot below.) Scroll down to the bottom of the screen.  You should see “Nevermind, I don’t need to amend.”  Click the cancel button.  (See second screen shot below.)   The changes you made should still be in there, but please double check!

Then, to delete the State Amended return:

Click on the State Taxes tab in Turbo Tax, then click continue.  Click "Edit" beside your state return. (Hopefully you will see a screen like the third screen shot.  But if not, then start going through your state return until you get to that screen.)  Click "Edit" beside Other Situations.  This will take you to "A few things before we wrap up your state taxes".  Click "Revisit" next to Amend a Tax Return.  Then click on "Delete my 2016 amended return".

I have tried to go through the state taxes like ten times and I never get to that screen. If I click on edit next to the state then it just takes me through all the questions and I click no on the amend screen and then it says they found 3 things for me to review on my state taxes and if I click continue on that screen then it asks me to fill in the amending form.
