Question

I amended my return mistakenly and the IRS accepted it. They had already updated between the time I viewed my return and amended. Will this cause delays for refund?

I had my tax records mailed to me and it showed that the IRS hadn’t updated my unemployment info. Then I received an email from TurboTax saying I might need to amend my return. After amending, I was looking over my tax records and saw that the IRS had corrected them already.

If you are due a refund for unemployment tax, you should have gotten that already.

If you amended to change some other amount, that will take months to get processed.

Had your original tax return already been processed when you amended?   You should not ever send in an amended return until the original return has been fully processed.   If you sent in a Form 1040X before the IRS was finished processing your original return, you can expect long delays.  Putting two returns into the system at the same time causes confusion and delays.   It is taking the IRS at least six months-- and often longer -- to process amended returns.
