The IRS does not send e-mails to taxpayers.  If you received an email concerning a tax return it was from TurboTax informing you that the tax return was e-filed or the e-filed tax return was accepted.  Since amended tax returns can only be printed and mailed, the email was for the original tax return.

If you need to amend a tax return that was already filed, then remove any changes you made to the original tax return.

An amended tax return, Form 1040X, can only be printed, signed, dated and mailed by you to the IRS, it cannot be e-filed. The IRS will take up to 4 months to process the amended tax return. Wait until you have received the tax refund or the taxes owed have been paid and processed by the IRS before amending the tax return.

To access your online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Amend (change) return

It sounds like you did not amend correctly, since an amended return can only be sent in by mail, and you do not  ever get a "confirmaiton" email about an amended return.

If you saw an email about your return, it could only have been for the original return you e-filed, not an amended return.    What did you change?

The only way to file an amended tax return is to prepare a 1040X and print, sign. and mail it.  If you did something else, like try to e-file a change, the changes were NOT TRANSMITTED.

You can amend a tax return after it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  You must work from your return exactly as it was when you first filed it. If you changed anything, change it back to the way it was when you originally filed it, before you follow the steps to amend. Follow the TT instructions to amend a tax return:

Wait about 3 weeks and you can check the status of your amended return:

It will take about 3-4 months for the IRS to process an amended return.
