Question

I asked business that paid me for work last year to send me a 1099, but they said they already filed their taxes in January so they could not.

I worked last year between and got paid in cash or Venmo. The business that paid me mentioned filing taxes in early January but never sent me the 1099 form. I requested one today on Feb 22, 2025 but they said they already filed their taxes in January and couldn’t send it.

You can still claim the income on your tax return without a Form 1099-NEC.  Use your own records to determine the amount you were paid for the year.  Then report the income on Schedule C for self-employment since you worked independently for the company and not as their employee.

See the following TurboTax help article to get started:

How do I report income from self-employment?
