Question

I did not claim unemployment I received this year completely by accident. (Have never received it and honestly was going too fastDo I need to amend to add income in NC?

Yes you will need to amend at least for NC at this time since they did not conform to the new federal tax law excluding 10,200 of unemployment from taxable income. 

 

If your unemployment benefits were over 10,200 you may need to amend your federal return as well.  However, you should wait on that one for an IRS notification.  They may catch that missing income and notify you.

 

At this point you can amend your state return only without amending your FED return until necessary.  

 

Sign in to your TurboTax account.  Select the "Add a state" option.  This will allow you back in to your return without amending the Federal.  Go to the state interview and find the "other tax situations" section and "Edit."  "Start" the "Amend" topic.

So I only need to do state ?? Or both ??   I’m so confused.  I want to do it now.  I already got the refund and I don’t want to owe the irs.  Thank you for your help.  I paid for the delux turbo tax package so can 

they not help me at all ?
