If the amount of your refund differs from what you expected, you will need to contact New York.  Typically, they will send a letter of explanation within 7-10 business days of the deposit or receipt of check.  

 

New York indicates that the best way to communicate with them while waiting for this letter is to open an online services account. Information on how to do this can be found here: New York information on adjusted refunds.
