Question

I didn't take an energy tax credit for our new boiler on last years return. Can I add it to my current return or do I need to amend last years return?

Boiler was installed in March 2015. We financed the total cost which will be paid off in 2018.

Unfortunately the tax code won't allow you to take that credit this year.  If you want the credit you'll have to file an amended return.  For information on filing an amended return see the following FAQ:
