Question

I entered my 2017 information but never filed. Is the information I entered into Turbo Tax for 2017 lost?

Use the recovery tool to find your return.

You have to access your own account and/or  print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax?  If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

That 2017 return cannot be e-filed.   It has to be printed, signed and mailed---if you are getting a refund mail it before the filing deadline or you will forfeit the refund.   If you owe tax due then your interest and penalties have been adding up since the filing deadline you missed in 2018.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
