Question

I file my college daughter accidentally who also works as a dependent. If I amend my return, will I have to pay money back?

How old is your daughter? Is she a full-time student? How much did she earn?

You can claim her if she was under 24 and a full time student.

If you claimed your daughter as a dependent and should not have, and you received a credit or a better filing status because of her then yes, you would have to pay back any credits you received by claiming her.

However, if she is under 24 and in college, lived with you for more than half the year (being away at college counts as living with you) and did not provide more than half of her own support you can claim her as a dependent even if she does work.
