Did you already file your return?  If you did, then you cannot make any changes to a tax return that has already been filed.

If your return gets rejected, you can then just delete the child & re-e-file. Ge to Personal Info, click Edit on the name, then delete.

If your return gets accepted, you would need to amend your return to make the change.  You should not amend until your original return has been accepted & fully processed.

hope that the IRS rejects it. the return can not be recalled.  if it is not rejected then you'll have to wait until it is fully processed then file an amended return. you have to wait for the original to be fully processed so you know the correct amount of refund that needs to be entered on the amended return. . hopefully, the original will be processed in time for you to submit the amended return before the initial due date so you can repay any overpayment that results before 4/15/2021 otherwise not only will you owe the taxes but probably interest and penalties.  the good news is that you should be able to efile the amended return.
