Question

I filed an amended return on 4/16 and it is not on the IRS "Where's My Amended Return" site. It's been over 3 weeks. what can I do to make sure the process is underway?

I need my amended return to process so I can get my stimulus payment. I incorrectly stated that someone else can claim me as a dependent, even though no one can.

The IRS is not processing paper tax returns at this time.

See this IRS website for information - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

The IRS is not currently able to process individual paper tax returns. If you already have filed via paper but it has not yet been processed, do not file a second tax return or write to the IRS to inquire about the status of your return or your Economic Impact Payment. Paper returns will be processed   once processing centers are able to reopen.

@DoninGA  so it’s sounds like I’m stuck waiting.  Do you know if I’ll be able to receive the stimulus money as a tax credit at tax time?  (assuming they start working and process my amendment by tax time next year)

@quackattack10 If you filed a 2018 or a 2019 federal tax return then you are eligible for the stimulus payment, even if the 2019 federal tax return is still processing.  Provided that you meet the requirements for eligibility.

Go to this IRS website for stimulus payment information FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payment-information-center

Use this IRS website for stimulus payment status - https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment

If you do not receive a stimulus payment in 2020, then you can apply for the payment on your 2020 tax return to be filed in 2021.
