Question

I filed my taxes already but I forgot to include my 1098-E. Can I file this separately?

The IRS will start processing returns on Feb 12. Until then TurboTax will hold your pending e-filed return. Pending returns can not be changed. If the return is accepted you will get an email. If the return is rejected the e-mail will tell you what to correct and you can make changes before

e-filing again. Amend to change an accepted return.

Ok, so if it gets accepted then there is nothing I can do to add the 1098-E to my filed taxes?

At that point the only thing you can do is file an amended return to claim an additional refund.

You would need to wait until the original return was processed.

Below are links for more information:

You have 3 years from the date you filed your return (or 2 years after you paid the tax due, whichever is later) to file an amended return.

Please click here for how to amend a return you already filed
