Question

I filed our married/joint return, but forgot to add my wife's W2. Can I amend the return that was just submitted?

I realized after submitting our return that her W2 was sitting unopened on the desk and I just completely forgot to enter it.

    You need to wait until the original return has processed. 

    If you file an amended return before that, the original and amended returns can cross in the IRS system. 

     

    It's possible that the IRS will adjust your original return for the missing W-2. If that happens, they will send you a letter asking if you agree with the adjustment. 

     

    If they don't add the W-2, file an amended return once the original is done processing.
