I filed return recieved 5071c letter for id verify...cant get thru to resolve & mailed everything 6 weeks ago & still nothing not sure what to or where to from here

The IRS will only process your return once you contact them somehow or verify your id on the website provided in the letter. The six weeks given by the IRS is also an approximate time, not the deadline... it can definitely take longer during peak season.

I recommend a few options at this point:

* try calling the number in the letter a few minutes before the phone lines open; keep re-dialing just to get to their queue; it's their peak season now, so wait time will be long;

* do the same for the general number (1-800-829-1040) and see if they can connect you to the special area...

* visit your local office if you unable to call or use the idverify.irs.gov website
