Question

I filed this year with turbo tax and when I printed out my return, I noticed an error. It shows my farm business twice. once as a loss of $1921 and as profit of $902

Try these steps to diagnose the issue with your duplicate farm:

You may have inadvertently entered more than one farm business in your tax return. Revisit the Federal>>Income & Expenses>>Rentals, Royalties, and Farm>>Farm Income and Farm Rental section to make sure you have only one farm.

A previously entered but deleted attempt to enter the farm income or expenses may still be in your tax return.  Use the "Delete a Form" feature to check for more than one Schedule F in your return.  Then, you must check the Farm business you do have entered, to make sure it has all the income and expenses for your farm.

Here's how to check for an extra form in TurboTax Online:

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools.
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
  4. Scroll down the page and look for Schedule F.  If you have more than one, choose the one you want to delete.
  5. Select Delete next to the Schedule F you want to delete and confirm the deletion.

Thank you for the info, however my taxes have already been filed. I did not see the error until I printed out a copy of my return. How do I access it now to make changes?

It sounds like you accidentally created two Schedule F forms for your farm. If your return was already efiled, you will need to amend it to make changes. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to TurboTax.
  2. Scroll down to Your tax return & documents (you may need to select Show), select 2019 and then Amend (change) return.
    • If you only see the option to amend 2018 or earlier, it's because you can't amend an unfiled 2019 return. Instead, just select Pick up where you left off, make your changes, and disregard the rest of these instructions.
  3. Select Amend using TurboTax Online.
  4. Carefully follow the instructions. Don't worry if your refund changes to $0. This is normal on amended returns.
  5. When finished, we'll give you instructions for printing and mailing your amended return, as amendments can't be e-filed.

Three weeks after mailing your amended return, you can start tracking it at the IRS Where's My Amended Return? tracking tool.  Please allow at least 16 weeks for the IRS to process your amended return.

Processing times for amended state returns vary from state to state. If it's been more than 12 weeks since you mailed your amended state return, and you haven't heard anything, we suggest you contact your state tax agency.
