Question

I filed via TurboTax on 3-16-2020 and I have not received my return yet. TurboTax system says it was accepted 3-16-2020. The IRS system can't find it. Next best steps?

If you are sure the efiled return was accepted, then when using the IRS WMR tool, be sure you enter the correct SSN and filing status.

For the refund amount, use only the Federal refund amount.  Do not use any combined total refund figure that includes the state refund.

Look at your actual 2019 return to get the Federal refund amount.  Be sure you are using what is displayed on your Federal Form 1040, Line 21a for the Federal refund amount.

And if you are paying your TurboTax fees out of the Federal refund, use the Federal amount without regard to the fee subtraction; i.e., the amount before any fees are subtracted.

You can also try phoning the IRS refund hotline.  I've seen it work for some users before when the WMR tool didn't.

Otherwise, you'll have to wait until the IRS live assistance call centers reopen to see if they can find you on their system..  They are not taking phone calls currently.

Thank you! I realized I chose the incorrect filing status when using the IRS system. My correction  gave me a different message from them stating my return was still being processed.

I am correct that you stated there is no one to call for an ETA currently?

You are correct.  The IRS live assistance call centers are closed due to the Coronavirus situation.  So you cannot phone them to check on the reason that your return is still in processing.
