Can you please let us know what the email said? Was it from the IRS or was it from TurboTax? The IRS generally sends letters by regular mail if they require more information. I would not reply to the email or send documentation until you confirm the email is not a scam.

@Jmiggins You added your post to a thread that is more than two years old.   We cannot really understand your issue.

First of all, the IRS doe not contact anyone via email, nor would you state contact you by email.   If your state wants information from you, they would send you a letter in the mail.

If you were contacted by the state, and do not understand what the state wants from you, then either contact the state to verify that the letter you received is legitimate, or:

AUDIT SUPPORT

TurboTax has a special phone number for help with IRS/state tax letters, which will be easier than going through regular Customer Support.   At the page below, click on the blue button that says "Get Help from TurboTax Support".  Then it will ask you what tax year is your letter.  Then it will ask you what the letter concerns. Then it will show you the phone number during posted business hours.

this might be a scam. the IRS does not send emails because it's not on the return. it sends letters.
