Question

I got the email from Turbo Tax telling them that I need to amend my Federal taxes. How do I amend to get the new benefits?

i’m assuming the unemployment added to my gross income put me over a certain tax bracket. I had already had them take out taxes before I received my unemployment. The email is telling me to amend it but I’m not sure how to do that

Did you report a 1099-G for unemployment comp?  The program has been updated to reflect the new $10,200 deduction for that.  You generally do not need to amend for Federal.

However, taxpayers would have to file an amended return if they did not originally claim the EITC or other credits, but now are eligible because the [unemployment comp] exclusion changed their income.  These taxpayers may want to review their state tax returns as well.
