If you had to pay and you expect your tax situation to be identical next year, divide the amount you had to pay by the number of pay periods per year and have your employer increase your withholding per pay period by that amount. 

It is very possible that congress may pass sweeping tax law changes that could be retroactive to 2017 so it's anybody's guess what your taxes will be for 2017.
