Question

I have a question about 2023 Prior Yr Return. When I am completing my 2024 Tax Return I see that the Prior Year Return information is not correct. How can I correct this?

The reason is because in November last year I adjusted my 2023 tax return in Turbotax to run a simulation on selling a rental property to see potential tax costs. This new information was never submitted to the IRS, it was just a test simulation. Now I cannot delete it from my 2023 Prior Year Return. The pdf of my 2023 Return is correct in Turbotax, it has the original submitted numbers. How can I correct Turbotax for 2023 so it is correct? The system will not allow me to correct this.

You should not have "messed" with your return that was prepared using online TurboTax after  you filed the return.   If you wanted to simulate a tax situation you should have created a separate "dummy" account for that instead of changing things on the return that you actually had submitted to the IRS previously.  Even though you did not attempt to send that changed return to the IRS, you damaged your return permanently.   Sorry.

Ok thanks for letting me know. Therefore if I wanted to make an amendment to my 2023 Tax Return and send to the IRS what would I need to do? Would I need to do this manually?

Fortunately, you have the .PDF of your 2023 income tax returns with the numbers that were submitted and accepted by the tax authorities.

A 2023 tax return preparation would be available here.  You would be able to re-create your tax return from your original documents and the .PDF files.

If you had to amend your 2023 income tax return, you would "file" this tax return as a manual paper-filed tax return.  Then initiate the amended tax return process.
