Question

I have a Roth IRA I started last year. I am trying to see how much I paid taxes on last year, something I know I submitted through TurboTax. Where can I find this?

There's a limit to how much I can contribute to the Roth IRA for any given year. I submitted both 2022 and 2023 funds in 2023, and may have included both funds in my 2022 tax submission last year through TurboTax. I am wondering if I paid taxes on both, or just the 2022 one. I suspect both, but would like to confirm, as that would impact my taxes for this year. I cannot, however, for the life of me find where this information is stored on my TurboTax account.

The best way to tell how much you contributed in 2022 is to do the following.

  1.  log into your Turbo Tax Account
  2. Go to your tax return and documents at the bottom of the page
  3. Select amend 2022 return.
  4. After a few preliminary questions, you should now be able to access your account.
  5. Go to federal>deductions and Credits>retirement and investments>traditional and Roth contributions.
  6. There you will be able to see the contribution amount you made
  7. You can find out if tax was assessed for an excess contribution by going to tax tools>tools>view tax summary
  8. Select preview my 1040 in your left navigational pane in your return
  9. Scroll down to Part 2-other taxes and look on line 8 to see if additional taxes were assessed.

You can check this in your 2023 return also. once you view this, close your return immediately as you do not want to make any accidental changes.
