Question

I have already filed my state taxes. Turbotax will not let me amend my federal return which I did with them without paying $50 to file state again with them.

I filed my state taxes myself and they do not require amending as I filed them much later than I filed my federal taxes.  Unfortunately turbotax will not let me amend my federal taxes(I am now eligible for the earned income credit, was not at time of filing) without paying a $50 fee to amend and file my state taxes too.  Which is unnecessary and seems a bit too much like extortion for my liking.

If I understand correctly that you filed your state taxes outside of TurboTax, then you should just delete the state return so that TurboTax no longer "sees" it to attempt to charge you.

To do this, click on the State taxes tab on the left side of the screen after logging into TurboTax and then select "delete" beside your state.

Later, if you wish to add it back just to have it as a reference, it is simple to do so.
