I have not heard from IRS. Tried to check the status of my refund on the IRS2GO app, but it said "Refund Status Error, information does not match." Did my taxes get lost?

If your return rejected because your dependents were claimed by someone else then did you print and mail your return?

They just started opening the mail in June that's been stacking up. Back in March the IRS closed their processing centers and stopped processing mailed tax returns.  An IRS spokesperson recently said that they have about 11 million pieces of unopened mail.  The IRS says....."We’re experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it."  So it may take longer if you mailed in June or later.  So you have to keep waiting.

As already explained in your other post, there is not a way to find out where your return is  in the 11 million pieces of mail the IRS is working on.  Imagine a needle in a haystack.  Mailed returns piled up in trailers for months during the pandemic.  The IRS is now working on opening those envelopes and beginning to process those returns.  But it will take a long time.  As frustrating as it must be, there is not a way to speed it up for you.  If you used a mailing service to track the envelope, you at least know it was received.  If not....then you just have to wait.  Calling the IRS will do no good.  And they very explicitly say not to file again.

If a dependent that you are entitled to claim has already been claimed by another taxpayer, your e-filed return will reject since the child's SSN has already been used (either intentionally or in error such as a mistyped SSN).

Your only recourse is to file a correct tax return, claiming what you are entitled to claim, then print and mail the return.

The IRS will process both returns and pay any refunds. Shortly (within a year) the IRS will mail letters to both taxpayers asking if their tax return was filed in error and suggesting that they amend if they improperly claimed the child.

If neither taxpayer amends, the IRS will send a second letter asking for each taxpayers proof that they are entitled to claim the dependent, such as proof that the child physically lived with them more than half the year. School records, child care records, household receipts, medical bills, etc., that show that the child lives with you should be retained.

The IRS will evaluate each taxpayers claim and award the dependent to one taxpayer, the other will have to payback any refund received plus interest and possible penalties. The taxpayer that had physical custody usually always wins.

Do not ignore the letters or you will loose.
