Solved

I have .tax files from 2012-2016 but no longer have the software to open them. Is there I way to access these? I need data from old W-2's for job references.

TurboTax is only available for the past three years and the current year. Instead of using your .tax files, a better option is to go on the IRS website and get copies of your W-2's. Once you create an IRS account, you'll have access to your information.

  • Wage and income transcripts are available from the IRS free of charge. They're not exact copies, but they contain everything on your W-2 except the state and local information.
