When you enter your W-2 you should enter zero wages for the nonresident state and only the withholdings.  Next you must add a state for the nonresident state and selecting nonresident status.  You should end up with no income on that state return and only the withholding as a payment and a refund.

There will be questions in the preparation that should allow any adjustment to remove any income for that state.  You can always go directly to the state website to print the blank forms and mail them with a copy of your W-2 and a copy of your resident state return.  You can add a statement that you did not work in their state and that the employer withheld the state tax in error.

I think you mean you paid some taxes in to a state in error. If so, you need to file a non-resident tax return for that state to get a refund of the taxes you paid.

I have the same situation with the addition of a second nonresidential state (MS, where I actually worked) not filed with the correct state wages and income tax on the W2-1099 because half of it was erroneously filed with the first nonresidential state (LA, where I did not work).

How should I file for the second state (MS)? Also, would I have to do anything in addition or different to the above instructions on refiling with the first state (LA)?

Looking through the individual tax forms from MS (https://www.dor.ms.gov/individual/individual-income-tax-forms), I'm wondering if I'll need to file a corrected form 80-205 (Non-Resident and Part-Year Resident Return) and possibly/unfortunately the 80-320 (Interest and Penalty Worksheet)?

Thank you.
