Question

I just amended 2017 tax return and already had 2018 taxes almost complete, can I re-import my 2017 amended tax history or is there a way to re-key it into 2018?

The only changes I made in 2017 return was to go from itemized deduction to standard deduction.

Assuming you have not yet e-filed for 2018, there are two main places where the 2017 change might influence your 2018 return.

1) By using the standard deduction in 2017, any state tax refund is not taxable in 2018.  For this go to the State and Local Refunds link, continue a few screens and check "I took the standard deduction in 2017" box.

2) What AGI is to be used to successfully e-file for a 2018 refund.  For that, use the IRS site https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript to get the figure the IRS will use for the comparison.

If, for some odd reason, the 2017 change increased your 2017 tax, the test that you paid at least 80% of the 2018 total tax after credits needs to be redone.  Go to the Other Tax Situations and run through the Underpayments penalty screens until you reach the one that asks for your 2017 tax.
