First, don't amend any return for a year being audited without the IRS's express consent.

Second, you should contact the IRS at the phone number on your audit paperwork, just to make sure it's okay to amend a return for a year not being audited. Information on a return for one tax year can sometimes affect returns for a subsequent tax year.

Once you speak to the IRS staffer working your audit, she'll be able to tell you what will happen to your audit.
