Question

I'm trying to amend, but I'm unable to change line 30 on my 1040, and I can't get anyone on the phone or chat to help me.

I guess there was a misunderstanding of the instructions on line 30 about the recovery rebate.  Someone put 1400 when it should have been left blank, and I need it fixed, but when I do the amend option it's not taking me there, and I can't find any help in the community questions or on the phone.

If you indicated that you did not receive the 3rd stimulus payment but you actually did receive the payment, the IRS knows the payment was sent to you and will remove the Recovery Rebate Credit of $1,400 from Line 30 of the Form 1040 and adjust your tax refund or the taxes owed accordingly.

You do not need to amend the 2021 tax return.

That's what I figured so I'm not understanding why they only sent me like 389 out of my 1729? It's not making any sense.  I just got the 1040x to amend this mistake since I couldn't do it here on Turbotax, but line 30 is completely different on that form.  There is no way to indicate that particular line was a mistake, if we were even responsible!  How am I supposed to know what they took that money for?  They give you a list of reasons but give you no indication what the actual reason is as if that's ok!

if you expected your refund to be $1739 and all they sent was $389, that difference is $1350.

what was on Line 40 originally?  I suspect $1400 and the IRS removed that and somewhere with the fees due to TT, the net difference comes out to $1350.

does that math work?

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO AMEND LINE 30 - the IRS had taken care of that for you.
