Question

I mailed my tax return since I was unable to submit it online. When should I be expecting my tax refund to be in my bank acccount?

Assuming you printed, signed, dated, and mailed the return to the correct IRS address, it takes about 6 weeks for the IRS to process a mailed return and send a refund, if it does not require further examination.   There's no way to know how the COVID-19 situation will cause any delay in processing due to any personnel shortages.

About 4 weeks after mailing, it should show up in the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool, where you can monitor and track your refund.  There's no need to try it before then, since it likely will not find you before the 4 weeks.

At that time, when using the IRS WMR tool, be sure you enter the correct SSN and filing status.

Use only the Federal refund amount.  Do not use any combined total refund figure that includes the state refund.

Look at your actual 2019 return to get the Federal refund amount.  Be sure you are using what is displayed on your Federal Form 1040, Line 21a for the Federal refund amount.

Sorry, but I don't know what that last sentence means.

The answer above tells how to check on a Federal refund.  However, the processing of paper returns has been suspended and delayed due to the Coronavirus situation.  There will be a backlog once they resume.

Here's the IRS page with a "Get My Payment" tool to check on a stimulus payment.
