I Need a Copy of My 2020 Tax Return

Hello! Please help! I need a copy of my 2020 Tax Return that I submitted through TurboTax earlier this year. When I go to my profile in TurboTax and click "download return" it gives me instructions of how to submit a return even though my federal and state returns have been accepted already.

All I need is a copy of my 2020 Tax Return for my records. How can I obtain one? I don't want to go through the IRS because I've paid TurboTax for a service. I've used you before and it's been great! And yes, I've tried using multiple browsers, different computers (Mac and PC), and nothing is working.

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.

This will take you back to the 2019 online tax return.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen.  Then click on Print Center.  Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.  Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets

@Guydell123 Did you skip past reading anything already in this thread?

You have to access your own account and/or  print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

Or did you use the desktop version of TurboTax?  If so, the files are on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.

    SAVE YOUR TAX RETURN !

EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records.  That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

I was at a DMV and they didn’t accept my SS card from birth!!!  (That’s another issue!).  They wanted my 2020 W2 in printout form.  I was right near a Staples but I could only download the entire tax return.
There should be a way to print sections since this is such a confidential piece of info.  Needless to say I had to drive over an hour to return home to get hard copy.  I could not access it there either easily.  I just wanted the W2 section.

Dug out the original and headed back to DMV. Client for 8 years.

@JLF_C When you save your tax return as a pdf you can easily pick which pages you want to print out.  Sorry---your issue at the DMV is not TurboTax's fault.    Nor does it make any sense that a  DMV would want your W-2.   TurboTax never has a copy of your W-2.

    I NEED A COPY OF MY W-2  (or 1099)

TurboTax does not have a copy of your W-2—the Wage & Tax Statement—issued to you by your employer, (nor does TurboTax have copies of your 1099’s).   You should always save those documents for your own records. You could ask the employer(s) for copies or you can get a copy from Social Security (for a fee of $90).

To get a copy of a W-2 from Social Security https://faq.ssa.gov/en-us/Topic/article/KA-02501

    https://www.irs.gov/help-resources/tools-faqs/faqs-for-individuals/frequently-asked-tax-questions-answers/irs-procedures/transcript-or-copy-of-form-w-2/transcript-or-copy-of-form-w-2

If you saved a pdf of your completed tax return, the worksheets will show the W-2 information you entered, but not the actual W-2.

You can get a wage and income transcript from the IRS:  It will not show the actual W-2, 1099’s, etc, but will show the income information the IRS received.  It will not, however, show your state information. It will only show the federal information.

    https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

Or you can pay the IRS $43 for an actual copy of your tax return which will include copies of your W-2’s

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

This is a public user community forum, not a direct route to TurboTax Support.  But TurboTax Support will not email you a copy of your 2020 tax return.  It is not secure to send a tax return in regular email anyway.  A return has way too much personal and sensitive information.

Also you posted your email address in your comment above in this public Internet forum.  It looks like the forum privacy filter has automatically removed it for your protection.  You should not post any personal information in this public user forum to avoid spams/scams.

If you used Online TurboTax for your 2020 return, you should be able to retrieve it yourself from your online account.  Any return prepared in desktop software will not be in an online account.

    First see this:

FAQ:  How do I access my prior year return?

    https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/01/270...

Log in and click on the Documents tab in the left menu column, and then a dropdown list of years should appear.  Choose the year, and then way off to the right of the screen, you should see a link to download the PDF.    If that didn't work, here's another method:

Go to the Tax Home.  Scroll down the Tax Home page to the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents."  Expand that section and choose the tax year 2020.   Then you can choose to "Download/print the PDF", or if you just need the 2020 AGI, then once you choose 2020 there should be a link to "View adjusted gross income (AGI.)"

If you do all that, but there's no evidence of prior returns in that section "Your Tax Returns & Documents", then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one.    Many people end up with multiple accounts.

You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes.  A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be.  It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all.

To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., you can use the tool at the link below.  When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first if you can still access it.   After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access.

NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop.  Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below.  You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session.

    https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery

If still no luck after running that on your phone number you can still access and email address(es) that you can access,  here's another method:

Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by SSN and other parameters.
