I Need a Copy of My 2020 Tax Return

Hello! Please help! I need a copy of my 2020 Tax Return that I submitted through TurboTax earlier this year. When I go to my profile in TurboTax and click "download return" it gives me instructions of how to submit a return even though my federal and state returns have been accepted already.

All I need is a copy of my 2020 Tax Return for my records. How can I obtain one? I don't want to go through the IRS because I've paid TurboTax for a service. I've used you before and it's been great! And yes, I've tried using multiple browsers, different computers (Mac and PC), and nothing is working.

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.

This will take you back to the 2019 online tax return.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen.  Then click on Print Center.  Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.  Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets

I have a problem that I need to fix on my 2020 IRS Federal Tax.

So far it's been over 8months and did not receive my refund.

It will be appreciated if you could e-mail me a copy of my 2020 return.

@emziyadeh TurboTax cannot mail or email your tax returns.

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

Or go to this IRS website for free federal tax return transcripts - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

For a fee of $43 you can get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf

Here's how to get a copy of your 2020 return PDF, which will hopefully be up to date, and also how to troubleshoot if you can't find it.

This answer assumes your 2020 return was prepared in Online TurboTax.  Any return prepared in desktop software will not be in an online account.

    First see this:

FAQ:  How do I access my prior year return?

    https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/01/270...

Log in and go to the Tax Home.  Scroll down the Tax Home page to the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents."  Expand that section and choose the tax year 2020.   Then you can choose to "Download/print the PDF."

If you do all that, but there's no evidence of prior returns in that section "Your Tax Returns & Documents", then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one.    Many people end up with multiple accounts.

You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes.  A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be.  It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all.

To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., you can use the tool at the link below.  When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first if you can still access it.   After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access.

NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop.  Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below.  You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session.

    https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery

If still no luck after running that on your phone number you can still access and email address(es) that you can access,  here's another method:

Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by SSN and other parameters.

Did you use Online TurboTax last year and this year?  If so, if you are in the same online account, then the 2020 info should have transferred into your 2021 return automatically.   So you may not be in the right account.  I'll tell you how to troubleshoot below.

NOTE:  If you used desktop software (CD/download) for your 2020 return, then only you will have the *.tax2020 data file.  A desktop return will not be in an online account.

Log in and go to the Tax Home.  Scroll down the Tax Home page to the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents."  Expand that section and choose the tax year 2020.   Then you can choose to "Download/print the PDF"or get the *.tax2020 data file if you want to transfer it into 2021 desktop software.

If there's no evidence of the prior online return in that section "Your Tax Returns & Documents", then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one.    Many people end up with multiple accounts without realizing it.

You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes.  A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be.  It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all.

You didn't ask a question.  Are you wanting to ask how to get a copy of your 2020 return (the title of this thread)?   If so, see the answer I left for another user in this thread at the link below.

When you get your copy, you can then verify if you entered your SS income and if you entered it on the correct line.
