I need help locating AOTC on IRS transcript from previous year that I did not use Turbo Tax to file

I filed with Jackson Hewitt one year, and I do not have my documents on hand to determine if I claimed the AOTC that year. When reviewing my transcripts on IRS.gov, what on the transcript would indicate if I did or did not claim AOTC that year?

An IRS Code 766 shows that you have received a credit on your account from the IRS. There are several reasons that you have a refund credit:

  • Child tax credit
  • Earned Income Tax Credit
  • Other Credits include lifetime learning credit, AOTC, recovery rebate credit, dependent care credit, saver's credit, and residential energy credit
  • If you are applying a refund to next year's return

From IRS transaction codes

The amount of the refundable credit will be entered as a negative number. Check the amount entered for IRS Code 766, if any, to see if you received any credits. The code could represent a number of refund credits.
