I need to change last year's bank for direct deposit

You cannot  change banking information while your return is in pending, nor can you change it after the return is accepted.  The IRS does not allow it.

If you have not filed your 2024 tax return -

Click on File on the left side of the online program screen.  On Step 2 if you have a federal tax refund click on Direct Deposit or if you have taxes owed click on Direct Debit.  The following screen will have your bank information which you can edit.

If you haven't filed your return yet, you can still change your routing number for your direct deposit. See the following steps on how to do this:

1. Open or continue your return.
2. Select File
3. Select Start or Revisit or Continue
4. Go to Step 2 Your refund/payment info
5. Select See all options on the Get your refund up to 5 days early screen
6. Choose Direct deposit and follow the onscreen instructions.
