Question

I need to file an amendment to my taxes. The system said I could do this on march 25th. Now is stating it will be ready on march 26th. Why is the date changing?

You will file IRS Form 1040-X if your 2020 Federal tax return has been e-filed, accepted and refund received.  Why was your dependent rejected?

This delay is being caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and year-end tax revisions.

The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 was signed into law on December 27, 2020.  The legislation includes $900 billion for various COVID-19 relief programs, government funding of $1.4 trillion and many, many tax provision changes.

The American Rescue The American Rescue Plan was signed into law on March 11, 2021. The legislation includes $1.9 billion for various COVID-19 relief programs and more tax provision changes, including tax changes retroactive to January 1, 2021.

IRS Form 1040X is one of the forms being changed.  Forms availability says that the 1040 amended returns will be available on March 26.
