Do you mean you need your 2019 AGI so that you can e-file 2020?

Where do I find my AGI?

Your 2019 tax return shows your 2019 Adjusted Gross Income  (AGI)  If you filed a joint return then the AGI is the same for each of you.

    Form 1040        line 8b

If you are using the same TT account that you used last year, you should also be able to find this number in your Tax Home for 2019

If entering the amount from your 2019 tax return does not work, then try entering “0” instead.  If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

You can get a free transcript of your past return from the IRS:

Note: If you filed late or amended your return, your correct 2019 AGI may not be in the system.

Note:  If you mail your federal return, you will also need to mail your state return.  You will not be able to e-file your state return.

    1. Regarding a code, there are several types of codes, such as a license code, only for CD/Download customers, or a verification code, sent to email to allow access to Online accounts. There are also PINs. See: What is the difference between the five-digit Self-Select PIN I created last year and my Self-Select PIN this year?

    2. To print a prior year tax return in TurboTax Online, follow these steps:

    • From the left menu, select Tax Home.
    • Scroll down to Your tax returns & documents and Show
    • Select 2018.
    • Navigate to the option to download the PDF of your return.
      • The forms are named in the top left and lower right hand corners of each page.

Taxes are paid after the year is finished. Therefore, the taxes filed 2/5/2019 would be for tax year 2018.

Only the 2019 tax year would be transferred into 2020. For more information, see: How do I prepare a 2019, 2018, or 2017 tax return? Use the details from the taxes filed 2/5/2019 when filing 2019.

If nothing was filed in 2020 for tax year 2019, then see:

    Can I file a 2020return if I haven't filed my 2019 return yet?

What do I put for my AGI if I didn't file last year?

If you did file 2019 but used a different account than the one used for tax year 2018, then you may need these resources:

First of all,  are you asking about your 2019 you filed last year in 2020 or a 2018 return you filed in Feb 2019?  We assume you are asking about last year's 2019 return.  What code do you need to file 2020?  You probably need the 2019 AGI?  And did you use the Online version?

You need your 2019 AGI to efile 2020. The AGI is on 2019 1040 line 8b. If you filed a Joint return you use the same AGI for each spouse.

    How to find the AGI.

If you didn't file 2019 or filed it later in the year then try entering 0 for the AGI. If that doesn't work you will have to print and mail your return.

Or request a transcript from the IRS
