Question

I never received the full amount of my tax return last year. The amount y’all told me was $1531 and I only received $131. Where did the rest of the funds go?

You will need to contact the IRS regarding your refund for last year. Please see How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)? for more information, including the IRS phone number and hours of operation. You may want to try calling early in the morning since they get busier throughout the day.

$1400 short sounds like you indicated to the software that you didn't get a stimulus payment last year....and the IRS took that 1400 out, because it's own records indicated that you were sent those $1400 in some earlier separate payment to you or your bank account.

1400 was the 3rd Stimulus payment.  It came out starting in March 2021.  If you didn't get it you claim it on your 2021 return line 30 as the Recovery Rebate Credit. But Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more.

If you claimed a missing stimulus payment on your return but the IRS took it off you have to ask the IRS. They think they already sent it to you.  Maybe it went to an account you don't remember. Or you got a check or a card. It was probably easy to miss the debit card in the mail and think it was junk mail. They have to put a trace on it.

Double check your bank statements and Check your IRS account to see when and what they sent you (check both spouse's accounts if married)

If the IRS thinks they sent it to you but you didn't get it request a trace for a missing third Stimulus payment
