I overstated my revenue on the first return. I filed a second return with the correct info. What's the best way to communicate with the IRS of this problem?

How do I file an amendment?
Best answer by bluedeb

If your first return has been accepted, you cannot file another one without doing an amendment.  Undo any information you changed after you e-filed.  Wait until your return has been fully process before filing an amendment.  The IRS does catch some mistakes and may correct your return.  If they do they will send you a letter notifying you of the change.

If the IRS does not correct your return, then you can file an amended return.  TurboTax's amended for should be ready by mid to late March.

If you prepared your original tax return using TurboTax, log in to your account, open the tax return you already filed, and click on the link to amend your return. From there, the software will walk you through the process of filing the amendment.
