Question

I paid my Federal tax for 2019

I filed my 2019 tax with Turbo Tax and it was determined that I owed Federal $1,315.  I paid it off between May and October of 2020.  I got a letter from IRS two days ago saying that I did not file my taxes for 2019.  When I called the phone number that was provided by IRS, the electronic voice verified that I have completed the payment by telling what day each payment was received from me.

Kindly rectify this for me because I don't want to get into with IRS.  Thanks.

TurboTax cannot legally intercede on your behalf with the IRS.  You need to contact the IRS to resolve this problem.

If the phone number you were provided does not have an option to speak with an agent then you will need to use the IRS main phone number.

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
    - When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
    - After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.
Or you can contact your local IRS office. See this IRS website for local IRS offices - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1 or call 1-844-545-5640 to set up an appointment

When you call  or respond to the IRS notice you need to have Proof of Filing in hand.  You will need to send them a signed copy of the return along with the  POF if requested.

How can I prove I e-filed my return (what is an "electronic postmark")?

As long as you transmitted your return before 11:59 PM on the day taxes were due, your return is considered timely filed even if it doesn't get accepted until after the deadline.

You can show you e-filed before the deadline using an Electronic Postmark, which is a time stamp that shows when your return was transmitted. You can find it in TurboTax. See below for instructions on how to find it for your current or prior year return.

(If you're concerned because you haven't yet received your refund, there are many reasons why a refund may be delayed, even if you filed on time.)

    Current tax year

    TurboTax Online and mobile app

Simply check your e-file status online (you’ll need your Social Security number and zip code) to retrieve your filing status history. You can then capture a screenshot or print it out from your web browser.

If the link above doesn't work, follow these steps:

    1. Open your return.
    2. On the first screen (it will say "Take me to my return"), scroll down and select Your tax returns and documents.
    3. Select the current year.
    4. Select View efile details.
    5. You can then capture a screenshot or print it out from your web browser.

    TurboTax CD/Download software

    1. First, open your return.
    2. Then, from File menu in TurboTax, select Check E-file Status.
    3. Select Print.

    Prior tax year

For returns before the current year that you e-filed with TurboTax:

    1. Open your return.
    2. On the first screen (it will say "Take me to my return"), scroll down and select Your tax returns and documents.
    3. Select the year you e-filed.
    4. Select View efile details.
    5. You can then capture a screenshot or print it out from your web browser.
